We are pleased to share that the MQii-developed Improvement Activity (IA), “Implement Food Insecurity and Nutrition Risk Identification and Treatment Protocols,” has been proposed for inclusion in 7 MIPS Value Pathways (MVPs) in the recently released CY 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule. Their inclusion highlights the importance of proper nutrition and access to healthy food across various disease areas and care settings, including stroke care, musculoskeletal rehab, and kidney health. If the rule is finalized, the inclusion of these IAs will provide a further incentive for MIPS-eligible clinicians to better address and prioritize food insecurity and nutrition risk in the care they provide. If desired, you can submit comments in support of their inclusion on regulations.gov by September 11, 2023.
You can read more about this specific Improvement Activity on CMS’s website and our MQii MIPS webpage—as well as corresponding resources about addressing food insecurity and nutrition risk. You can also read more about MVPs, and how CMS eventually plans to sunset traditional MIPS and make MVPs mandatory, on CMS’s Quality Payment Program website.
