On July 25 at 1 PM ET, The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is hosting an Understanding the Global Malnutrition Composite Score: Key Insights and Major Updates for Reporting Period 2025 webinar.
Evidence demonstrates that providing malnutrition care during a hospitalization is crucial for improving patient outcomes and optimizing resource utilization. Best practices for malnutrition care suggest that adult inpatients should be screened for malnutrition risk during each hospitalization, followed by a thorough assessment of those at risk to confirm the findings. If a patient is identified with malnutrition during the nutrition assessment, they should receive a current malnutrition diagnosis and an appropriate nutrition care plan. The Global Malnutrition Composite Score (GMCS) is the first nutrition-related electronic Clinical Quality Measure (eCQM) under the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Inpatient Quality Reporting Program. This webinar will provide a brief background on the GMCS and then focus on the comprehensive updates, product of the 2024 Annual Update cycle, which impact the Reporting Period Calendar Year 2025. The presenters will discuss each update, its impact, and the benefits, ensuring the measure meets its intended goals.
Objectives include:
- Gain understanding of the GMCS measure purpose and individual components.
- Outline and explain the updates made to the GMCS as part of the 2024 Annual Update.
- Discuss the impact the GMCS measure can have in patient outcomes and facility outcomes
