Opportunity to Comment on AHRQ Comparative Effectiveness Review of Nutrition and Cancer

August 1, 2022

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) recently published a draft Comparative Effectiveness Review, intended to inform the recent Pathways to Prevention Workshop titled, “Nutrition as Prevention for Improved Cancer Health.” Such AHRQ reports are intended to help healthcare decision makers—patients and clinicians, health system leaders, and policymakers, among others—make well-informed
decisions and thereby improve the quality of healthcare services provided. More specifically, the authors aimed to understand the evidence base for nutrition interventions delivered prior to or during cancer treatment for preventing and treating negative cancer and cancer treatment-related
outcomes among individuals with or at risk for malnutrition. They concluded that the quality and heterogeneity of the studies currently published limit the ability to translate findings into clinical practice or guidelines. The Review is now open for public comment through August 23, 2022. We encourage those of you focused on cancer prevention treatment to review and consider commenting; also, those of you conducting research on patients with cancer may consider aiming to fill the research gaps outlined in the Review.
