A new commentary article titled, “Healthy Aging—Nutrition Matters: Start Early and Screen Often,” about the importance of good nutrition in aging adults has been published in Advances in Nutrition. The authors summarize what is known about dietary patterns and weight maintenance related to disease prevention in later life as well as nutrition interventions used in treatment. After reviewing what gaps in knowledge and barriers to successful implementation remain, they argue that both improved public health messaging about nutrition and aging as well as routine screening and medical referrals for nutrition-related conditions are needed.
