The National Quality Forum’s (NQF’s) Rural Health Advisory Group, under its Measure Application Partnership, has included the Global Malnutrition Composite Score (GMCS) in its “2022 Key Rural Measures: An Updated List of Measures to Advance Rural Health Priorities” under its Health Equity category. CMS had tasked NQF with updating this list of quality measures based on knowledge of growing health disparities in rural populations in the US. Including the GMCS in this list highlights it as a best-available, scientifically valid measure that addresses conditions and topics important to rural patients and is resistant to low case-volume challenges. Stakeholders can use this list of key rural measures to guide performance and quality improvement efforts in rural areas.
